Like father, like son: After defeating political stalwarts, Late Madan Lal Sharma’s son Satish is the new face of Jammu politics
POONCH TODAY NEWS
POONCH/JAMMU: The 2024 assembly election has given a new face to Jammu politics, and that is young Satish Sharma, who is the son of late two-time Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma. It is important to mention here that the late Madan Lal Sharma remained a big and powerful face of Jammu politics. He also brought his younger brother Sham Lal Sharma into politics from government service and helped him become a legislator twice, including minister in the NC-Congress coalition government.
The Madan Lal Sharma family once was considered a big force in the entire Jammu region, but after the death of Madan Lal Sharma, there was a huge responsibility on young Satish to carry forward the legacy of his father. A highly educated Satish Sharma started following in the footsteps of his father and remained associated with the ground by addressing the genuine concerns of the people. Similar to his father’s love for the common masses, Satish also adopted the same from his heart and remained devoted to the public service. Satish Sharma also got some internal political jerks from his own people earlier, which were not expected by anybody, but by facing all the difficulties silently, Satish emerged as a stronger voice and managed to leave his impact on the people. Before the assembly election, Satish Sharma was considered a Congress candidate, but when the grand old party denied him a mandate, Satish decided to fight as an independent candidate from Chhamb constituency against a political stalwart and former Dy.CM Tara Chand. From the BJP side, Rajeev Sharma got the mandate. The political pundits were expecting a tough fight on the Chhamb seat, but Satish played a remarkable innings and won the Chhamb seat by taking 33,985 votes, while BJP candidate Rajeev Sharma got 27,056 votes. Satish’s biggest rival and ex-DyCM Tara Chand got only 16,449 votes. This spectacular performance of Satish has shown that the decision of Congress top brass was wrong as top leaders underestimated the credibility of Satish Sharma among the masses. Political observers believe that Satish’s dominant performance in the assembly election and his being the son of former two-time Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma have earned him a cabinet berth in Omar Abdullah’s government. While talking to “POONCH TODAY,” a former legislator, on the condition of anonymity, said, “Satish is just like his father. He has that spark of public service that his father used to have. I am sure that he will become a big face of Jammu politics like his father.” Considering the big political legacy of late Madan Lal Sharma and his son’s remarkable performance by defeating a former Dy.CM Tara Chand, Omar Abdulha has honored Satish with a cabinet berth, and this is seen as a big decision of Omar Abdullah in giving a positive signal to the entire Jamul region. Making MLA Nowshera Surinder Choudhary a Dy.CM is also seen as a big political shot of Omar Abdullah. However, it’s a big responsibility on the shoulder of Young Satish Sharma, who has made his father, late Madan Lal Sharma, proud in heavens by becoming a cabinet minister, and he is likely to serve the masses to fulfill the aspirations of his late father, whose only purpose was to serve the masses by all means.
