Paisa bolta hai! District administration adopts double standards on illegal stone crushers; No strong  action on mining mafia yet

POONCH: District administration remained in news for various  unpleasant reasons and reportedly going by the sorry state of affairs related to poor coordination between various top officers, it seems that different chairs have adopted different yardsticks while taking on illegal stone crushers and mining mafia. One officer is doing one thing while another is doing another thing.

There is no coordination between various top officers of administration. There are reports that the majority of top officers are not happy with the working of CPO Poonch who used to sing different tunes on financial matters as the top officers want him to follow their tunes for personal self interest. Internal administrative system is not working in a well coordinated manner as this is depicted from action on some illegal stone crushers a few days ago. Even on various land(State/Kachrai/Illegal capturing of government buildings/Illegal constructions near river beds related issues, no subordinate official  is following the orders of administration. Earlier, few influential stone crushers owners who  failed to follow the line of top brass of administration, faced strong action, while those having political links and running illegal stone crushers and are involved in mining near major bridges were not taken to task  and this raises an alarm bell that administration has adopted different yardsticks for different things. Reportedly, an erring official of the revenue department posted in a subdivision is involved in collecting money from a few stone crushers and mining mafia on behalf of few tainted officers and it clearly shows that few officers are involved in ensuring the flourishing business of illegal stone crushers and mining mafia. Due to regular practice of mining and illegal stone crushers, many drowning incidents were reported in the past because those involved in this business have diverted the flow of water in river bed areas. As a result, they are openly seen digging near major bridges, thereby putting the lives of people at grave risk. This will have an impact on the foundations of major bridges. Interestingly, an illegal stone crusher was recently opened in the Dingla area of Chandak within few meters of a school and opened by those having a strong political background, but administration never took an action on this illegal stone crusher, because those, who have opened this are politically strong and have good links with the administration. Even, stone crushers and mining activities have been going on near Kalai, Mandi, Surankote and Nangali sahib bridges, but who will bell the cat as district administration seems to be involved with those who are running such illegal units.   It’s a big question mark on those officers who have adopted different yardsticks for political sound people and common man and this raises a big question mark on the transparency claims of the government of J&K. A high level inquiry is needed against the district administration over allowing illegal stone crushers and mining mafia to operate without any fear of law. It seems that for district administration, politically sound persons can violate law openly while others having no political background need to obey all rules and it shows that in Poonch administration “Paisa bolta hai” and not rules.
