POONCH: DC Poonch, the other day, inspected the newly shifted Girls Pahari hostel and directed the concerned authorities to ensure better facilities for the students living in the hostel, but there is another side of the story as well. Girls students narrated their problems, which were shocking.

They said that the hostel has no permanent staff members. Only four female staff members are there who are involved in cooking and related activities but hesitate to attend to their duties regularly. Students are left with no alternative but to wash their utensils and toilets themselves. Without having full-time sweepers and cooks, temporary employees are behaving like wardens. Right now, there is no accountant, assistant warden, or warden. As per the statements of the girls, a watchman comes around 8 p.m. and goes away in the morning, and during the day, nobody is there to supervise the activities of the girls hostel. A woman KAS officer, who is the DDO of four departments, two in Rajouri and two in Poonch, is looking after the assignment of warden Pahari hostel. The new building, which was inspected by DC Poonch a few days ago, was not designed for more than fifty students. With a number of problems existing in the Pahari hostel, the same have not been looked into by the district administration, Poonch, and it seems that the girls’ Pahari hostel is running at the mercy of God. Even female students face water shortages regularly. Despite facing multiple problems at the girl’s Pahari hostel, students find it difficult to convey their concerns to the administration. A high-level inquiry is needed from the DC Poonch into the issue so that all the shortcomings are addressed in the interest of students who are residing in Pahari Hostel Poonch.
