Omar Abdullah’s promise: Nearly 7,000 vacancies in various government departments are likely to be filled by 31st December 2025

POONCH TODAY NEWS

POONCH: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the other day, said that more than 7,000 vacancies are likely to be filled during the year 2025, and in this context, directions have been issued to the JKSSB and JKPSC to start the process of recruitment drive. The other day, more than 500 posts of JEs were advertised.

The government said that nearly 1,500 gazetted vacancies and 5,750 non-gazetted vacancies will be filled. It is pertinent to mention here that the unemployment rate in J&K has increased sharply over the last few years, as educated youths were seen running from pillar to post in search of private employment due to the lack of employment opportunities on various government posts. Before the PDP-BJP government came to power, J&K witnessed a continuous process with regular advertisements for various posts; thereby, it used to give a positive hope among the unemployed youth. After 2014, no large-scale posts of teachers were advertised in J&K. People in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri depend on teacher posts, and the education department was the only area that catered to the demands of unemployed youth in these twin border districts for years. But after 2014, highly educated youths did not get sufficient opportunities to apply for teacher posts. After the abrogation of temporary articles 370 and 35-A, the youth of J&K witnessed a lack of advertisement opportunities for government jobs; as a result, the majority of youths became overage. As the J&K was going through a transition phase from a government business rules point of concern after becoming a UT, educated unemployed youths did not get maximum chances to apply for the government jobs, as no concrete policy was formed by the J&K government. Educated youth are assets of the nation, and if they fail to get any employment opportunities, then it raises a big question mark on the government that the high authorities have no strong policy for the educated youth. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that in the first step, more than 7,000 gazetted and non-gazetted vacancies will be filled up during the year 2025, and once this process starts, it will remain in a continuous form to give educated youth an opportunity to get government jobs after qualifying for the concerned exams. Reports available with “POONCH TODAY” say that more than 30,000 vacancies (gazetted, non-gazetted, and MTS) are available with the government. During the last two years, 9,351 selections were made by the JKSSB, while 2,175 selections for gazetted posts were made by the JKPSC. As there is no private sector in J&K, the educated youths of J&K depend on the government jobs only. The government needs to understand the gravity of the situation and needs to work out modalities for ensuring regular employment drives to address the rising and genuine concerns of the educated youths who have no other options other than to apply for the government job. Youth are the future of the nation, and it’s the responsibility of the government to engage them positively in the nation-building process.   Considering this aspect as a priority, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has promised to address the aspirations of the educated youth of J&K by ensuring regular employment drives, and in this context, the process of filling nearly 7,000 gazetted and non-gazetted posts is likely to be completed by the end of the year 2025, if sources close to “POONCH TODAY” in the civil secretariat are to be believed.
