Omar’s government decision to honour outstanding sportspersons with a government job will attract youngsters towards various games; Sports minister Satish Sharma’s efforts appreciable

POONCH/JAMMU: As the menace of drugs has become the biggest threat for the youth across the nation, particularly in J&K, large-scale efforts are required from every corner to educate the youngsters to stay away from the bad habit.

However, countering such a menace with a positive approach, the Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, and Sports Minister Satish Sharma have taken a big step which will help the youth to stay away from the drugs and to focus on their overall development by playing various games. In a big decision, the J&K government has issued a provisional selection list of 222 outstanding sportspersons in government jobs. This decision will boost the morale of sportspersons across the J&K UT and also encourage the youth to play sports to stay away from the bad habit of drugs. Sanjeev, a veteran football player, while talking to “POONCH TODAY”, said, “This is really a great decision of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Cabinet Minister for Sports Satish Sharma. This will increase the confidence of youngsters by knowing that if they play sports and perform exceptionally well at the national or an international level, then they will be recognized with a government job. The efforts of sports minister Sharma are really appreciable.” Likewise, many sportspersons belonging to different games have applauded the vision of the Chief Minister and the sports minister. They demanded that such an exercise needs to be carried out annually, as it will have a great impact on the hearts and minds of the youngsters who are still away from the sports. Although the union government has constructed many sports stadiums and strengthened the sports infrastructure across the J&K UT during the last few years, what was missing was the ultimate recognition of sportspersons who have excelled at the national and international levels, but the present J&K government, led from the front by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Sports Minister Satish Sharma, took the initiative and honoured 222 outstanding sportspersons with a government job. This action of the Omar Abdullah government will shape the destiny of sports in J&K in times to come.
