Poonch city suffers from irregular water supply as the Jal Shakti minister is busy running a transfer industry

POONCH: The Jal Shakti department is not in the right hands, as the officials of the department in Poonch have failed on all fronts in providing a regular drinking water supply to the residents of Poonch.

Though the concerned minister of the department is busy running a transfer industry, he is least bothered to enquire about the horrible state of affairs in Poonch city. The Executive Engineer of Jal Shakti Poonch, who is considered a blue-eyed man of the concerned minister, seems to have no knowledge about how to run the system on the ground. The department is completely controlled by a small group of individuals who have accumulated significant wealth through illegal practices over the years. If the department fails to provide a regular water supply to the people of Poonch City, then it shows that the concerned departmental officials have taken everything for granted because they know that their minister is busy in other practices.  It is important to note that the Jal Shakti department has received thousands of crores over the years for strengthening the water supply infrastructure in the district, but the actual conditions on the ground tell a different story. Almost in every mohalla of the Poonch city, an irregular water supply remained a common issue. PHE officials have only one excuse, and that is “Motor Kharab hai”. The district administration believes in routine work affairs and has never bothered to question the performance of the PHE department. “If this is the condition of Poonch city, then one can imagine the state of affairs of PHE in far-flung areas of Poonch district,” said an aggrieved resident of Poonch city. Although people from all the sections of the society have been continuously raising the issue of poor water supply, nobody in the administration and the concerned minister is ready to address this issue. A senior citizen, pleading anonymity, said, “The Jal Shakti department remained a hub of huge financial scandals, particularly the Jal Jeevan Mission, but it’s shocking that the department has done nothing on the ground to strengthen the infrastructure to ensure a regular water supply to the people.” The people of Poonch have sought the immediate attention of the Jal Shakti minister and asked him to resign on moral grounds if he cannot ensure regular water supply to the people through his subordinate employees.
