JAMMU: There is a big question mark on some important police officers of the Jammu division who are sitting at the top, as a politically influenced powerful police officer has managed to get posted at a particular police station as SHO repeatedly and has earned illegally from land mafia, bovine smuggling, and other illegal works. During the last few years, he managed his posting at a particular police station repeatedly known for brazen bovine smuggling in addition to managing some prestigious police stations in the JKS range.

He has purchased huge land in some renowned locations of the Jammu district. He also built a lavish bungalow in a posh area of Jammu. In addition to his properties in Jammu, he also acquired huge wealth illegally and has big properties in some other districts of the Jammu division also. He also had bad credentials against the society, but under the political influence, he was not taken to task by anybody, and later, he was promoted to various ranks due to his political links. A huge chunk of forest land, in several kanals, has also been encroached upon by him by misusing his powers. Some SPOs are also working in his home in a posh area, while other Karyakhas are posted at some nakas to generate illegal income. He also owns a big farmhouse with all the facilities. When the ruling party came to power at the centre, he shifted his loyalties towards the ruling party from outside and again managed prestigious postings. However, his links with the old political party are still active from inside. He also enjoyed an important posting as SHO in two prestigious police stations of the JSK range, and later, he managed to get his posting again to a place where he had served several times and again started earning heavily from bovine smuggling and land mafia business. In the same area as SHO, he has purchased a huge piece of land valued at nearly crores. The police officer in question, due to his strong political links, has learned the tricks of the trade in the department, and this is the reason that the top brass of police in the Jammu region has done nothing to adjust other meritorious inspectors as SHOs at different places. This is a case of total partiality within the department, in that a tainted police officer has become an expert in managing his postings due to his political links, while others have gotten fewer opportunities to run police stations. Due to his strong influence, the said police officer has earned a huge income beyond one’s imagination in addition to building multiple properties in the posh areas of the JKS range. Some properties also exist outside the JKS range, and it clearly shows that the said police officer, who earlier had bad credentials against the society, has managed everything due to his shrewd tactics and by using political influence in a smart way. It’s a big question mark on the department in the Jammu region that the top brass never investigated the reasons on what basis the said police officer was given postings at a particular place and time and again during the last few years, in addition to other important postings in some prestigious police stations in the JKS range as SHO. On the one hand, J&K police is the country’s renowned police force with high integrity and professionalism, but such police officers, on the other hand, leave no stone unturned in demolishing the reputation of the elite J&K force with their crooked activities. It’s high time for the department not to encourage such officers while others known for their professional zeal and zest need to be recognized for their exemplary track record.
