POONCH: The annual teacher’s drive of Poonch district has been in the news as some of the affected teachers approached different quarters to highlight their grievances. 
Minister for Education Sakina Itto and Director School Education Jammu, during a meeting, said that the concerns of the genuinely affected teachers will be looked into as a priority. But this episode of ATD in the Poonch district has again exposed the differences within the Poonch unit of the BJP. Only ex-MLC Pardeep Sharma was seen approaching different quarters to highlight the issue of the affected teaching community. Other BJP members, who are usually seen only on social media, failed to stand with the Poonch-based teachers despite fully knowing the fact that the saffron party got the maximum number of Poonch city votes during the last assembly elections. Ignoring the teaching community of Poonch by the local unit of BJP has started a big debate in Poonch city against the BJP leaders, as the affected teachers alleged that during their tough times, the majority of leaders belonging to different political parties, particularly BJP, failed to stand with them. It is pertinent to mention here that the issue of the ATD remained in the media limelight; as a result, the top brass of the education department took the matter as a priority and decided to look after the genuine cases. As most of the affected teachers belong to Poonch City, the leaders belonging to different political parties thought to ignore the issue, as their main concern is only vote bank politics. The affected teachers in their struggle for justice found only ex-MLC Pardeep Sharma at their back, but other BJP leaders remained missing from the scenes, and it raised a big question mark on the local BJP leadership, which failed to look into the issue of the teaching community. Some affected teachers from Mandi, Surankote, and Mendhar have also approached the concerned quarters, and it is likely that the genuine concerns of the affected teachers will be addressed by the department soon.
