Big success for Poonch police as three OGWs of Hizbul Mujahideen arrested with AKs; IGP Jammu lauds Poonch police

POONCH: Poonch police gave a big jolt to the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen by arresting its three overground workers, who were on a mission to revive the terror operations in the Poonch region.

It is pertinent to mention here that J&K police earlier had achieved massive success in the elimination of militancy from the Poonch region, but over the years, some big terror attacks have taken place in the BG area and some in Rajouri, indicating the attempts to revive the terrorism again in the region from Pakistan-backed terror outfits. However, the belt from where these three OGWs have been arrested was considered a safe belt during the last few years, but the later attempt from Hizbul Mujahideen to revive its operations in the border district has been foiled successfully by the Poonch police with the help of intelligence agencies. It’s the result of professional work of Poonch police that led to this major achievement with the arrest of three OGWs of the proscribed outfit with the recovery of seven AKs in total; three were recovered during this operation, and four were recovered earlier, said a police spokesman. The arrested OGWs of Hizbul Mujahideen were identified as Tariq Sheikh, Mohd Shafi, and Riyaz Ahmed. Two OGWs were arrested on August 31, namely Ahmed and Sheikh, and from their possession also, two AKs were recovered. The top brass of the police has termed the achievement as fantastic. IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti has lauded the efforts of Poonch police led by SSP Shafqat Hussain, ASP Mohan Sharma, Dy.SP HQRS, and Dy.SP Operations. The arrest of OGW with AKs shows that the proscribed terror outfit was planning hard to revive its terror activities in the Poonch region, and it’s a wake-up call for the intelligence agencies and police to launch more such types of operations, as the probability of other terror outfits planning the same activities cannot be ruled out. The Poonch region had witnessed some big terror attacks in the recent past without any sound output for the security forces, but this latest success of Poonch police has raised the morale of the security forces in the war against the revival of terrorism in the sensitive border district.
