Disgraceful politics! Cabinet Minister Javed Rana forgets that decisions are the prerogatives of the government, not majority or minority; CM Omar Abdullah needs visionary leaders

POONCH: The other day, in a pure example of disgraceful politics, sitting cabinet minister of the J&K government, Javed Rana, created a controversy during a media interview when he said that a minority (in J&K) cannot decide the fate of a majority on the issue of a separate Jammu state.
Rana hit hard on those BJP leaders and other nationalist forces of Jammu who have raised the issue of the creation of a new Jammu state. Rana, who is known in political circles for giving controversial statements without any logic just to preserve his vote bank, has violated constitutional protocol when he tried to polarise the issue of a separate Jammu state. Rana, who was always seen singing the hollow song of ‘Secularism’, suddenly turned otherwise when he hit hard on all those dreaming of a separate Jammu state. Although Javed Rana is a cabinet minister, he has forgotten that it is the government that makes a decision on any issue and not the minority or majority of the country. If the union government in the near future decides to create a separate Jammu state, then it’s the prerogative of the government, and any government at the helm of affairs is not identified by minority or majority, and for this, the sitting Cabinet Minister needs to read constitutional rules. However, people of Jammu are coming strongly to stand in favour of a separate Jammu state, as they said that the nationalist Jammu region has suffered a lot at the hands of Kashmiri leadership, and they don’t want to see their future generations suffer in the same way they have suffered. The nationalist people of Poonch, Rajouri and the Chenab Valley, which are an ultimate part of the Jammu region, also stood like a rock for the nation during difficult times, but the controversial leader Javed Rana didn’t spare a second in saying that these districts would not be a part of the Jammu region by any means, thereby giving a deliberately polarised look to the issue. For several decades, Kashmir received huge funding from successive governments at the centre, but the Jammu region was always given stepmotherly treatment. The National Conference leadership, which always projects itself as a secular and nationalist party, never gave any controversial statement on the issue of a separate Jammu state, but on the other hand, a sitting cabinet minister, Javed Rana, has surprised everyone with his confused statement in which he mentioned the words ‘minority’ and ‘majority’, which is not expected from a cabinet minister. Does he think that all are fools and he is the only intelligent leader in J&K? Rana must understand that all are not chips of the same block. As a cabinet minister, Javed Rana is not working for his Mendhar constituency only, but he has a huge constitutional responsibility for the entire J&K UT. The controversial line which Javed Rana has recently adopted is not the line of National Conference leadership, although the NC top leadership is against the idea of dividing Jammu and Kashmir. Former Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and sitting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah need to address the issue because one wrong statement of sitting cabinet minister Javed Rana has given a big dent to the credibility of the National Conference in the J&K UT. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah needs visionary leaders in his cabinet to win the trust of the people of J&K. However, the people of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri are surprised by the out-of-the-box mindless rhetoric of Javed Rana, which indicates that any type of administrative decision should only be taken by the majority or minority of the country and not by any government. If the cabinet minister Javed Rana has this mindset of ‘minority’ and ‘majority’, then one could imagine the state of affairs in all those departments under him, and it clearly indicates that people of his ideology are the ultimate beneficiaries from his portfolios, and he was also working for them only while on the prestigious chair of a cabinet minister. It is pertinent to mention here that Javed Rana, during his previous stints as MLA Mendhar, also gave controversial statements many times to secure his political base in Mendhar. In the Poonch district, Mendhar is considered a hub of brazen corruption, as over the years, no significant development has been seen in Mendhar. Only those who remained in power looted everything meant for the common man of Mendhar from a developmental point of view. If the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI decide to land in Mendhar and start inspecting the development scenario of Mendhar in all the major departments during the last three decades, then various big frauds amounting to thousands of crores will come out, said a senior citizen of Mendhar, pleading for anonymity. Rather than misguiding the people with his controversial statements, just for his vote bank politics, the sitting cabinet minister Javed Rana needs to broaden his vision and should read the constitution to understand the importance of the responsibility he is carrying as a cabinet minister. Rana’s own department of Jal Shakti has become a department of multi-crore frauds, as some employees of the same department were seen openly saying, “Upar tak kisi ke through (some designated touts) paise doo important hotels mein, koi kaam bhi karwa loo guarantee ke saath.” As the image of the sitting cabinet minister has come down due to his controversial statements and reports of heavy corruption in the departments under him, its time for the NC supremo Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minster Omar Abdullah to save the credibility of the party in the eyes of the common man of J&K UT by introducing transparency, discipline, care and an attitude of development for all the sections of the society among his cabinet colleagues and those cabinet colleague of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who only believes in contemptible politics be taken to task because over and above, credibility of Abdullah’s national conference and the present government is important in the eyes of the common man in the entire J&K UT.
