POONCH TODAY NEWS
POONCH: The deadliest attack, which was started by Pakistan on the innocent people of Poonch on the 7th and 8th of May, 2025, sent massive shock waves among the residents of Poonch as many people, including children, sacrificed their lives for the nation.
During the tough moments, ex-MLC Pardeep Sharma and sitting MLA Ajaz Jan were seen running here and there to provide all kinds of support to the affected families. During the first two days of heavy shelling, these leaders did their best to give the people hope and support when the administration was absent on the ground. Pardeep Sharma was appreciated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and sitting MP Asaduddin Owaisi. In addition to Pardeep and Ajaz Jan, some social workers also played a big role during the crisis by shifting ailing patients to the hospital and protecting the belongings of those who left the town after shelling. As the majority of people left Poonch town, those who were living in the town said that they felt threatened as there were no security personnel in the city. A senior citizen, pleading anonymity, said, “The city was without any security, and I thought that somebody would come and kill me. All the mohallas wore a deserted look, and there was not a single sign of security personnel guarding the sensitive areas of Poonch city. We spent those two days at the mercy of God.” Likewise, many people, while sharing their horrible experience with “POONCH TODAY,” said that a few important officers of the administration fled to Surankote without caring for the people, but some police officers did a big job in providing relief to the people. SSP Poonch Shafqat Bhat and ASP Mohan Sharma were also seen running here and there to take stock of the situation, but in between, DY.SP HQRS Neeraj Sharma, without any media limelight, worked silently and played a big role in addressing the security and other concerns of the people by reaching as many places as possible. For two days, there was no civil administration on the ground as people who were residing in the city suffered a lot. Questions were raised against the administration as to why no plan was formulated in advance to counter such a situation. When the Poonch city and other areas of the district were going through massive shelling that led to the killing of 13 persons, people were seen praying to God for help. When the shelling was stopped, officers of civil administration reached the shelling-affected places to access the damage. But the people from all sections of the society have appreciated the efforts of ex-MLC Pardeep Sharma and sitting MLA Aajz Jan for providing hope for the people during hours of crisis. Moreover, in hours of crisis, the people of Poonch showed their traditional communal harmony and brotherhood and helped each other when there were no signs of civil administration on the ground. On the one hand, Pardeep Sharma and Ajaz Jan did their best for the people during the crisis; on the other hand, police officers like Dy.SP HQRS Neeraj Sharma were working silently without any media limelight. A lot of other police officials of various lower ranks were also active on the ground, led by SSP Poonch Shafqat Bhat and ASP Poonch Mohan Sharma , but in reality, there were no signs of civil administration on the ground during the first two sensitive days. Only traditional sycophants of Poonch were seen praising the civil administration, which did nothing for two days. After things became normal, DC Poonch, ACR Poonch, Tehsildar Haveli, ARTO Poonch, and other officials were seen visiting different areas to address the concerns of the people. But on the whole, those leaders, social workers, and police officers who stood like a rock for the people during the crisis have gained huge appreciation within and outside of J&K. The way Poonch city was targeted by Pakistan, only God saved the people and not the administration.
