Former MLA Haveli Shah Mohd Tantray joins the elite politicians’ group in the country whose children have cracked the prestigious IAS exam

POONCH: Former MLA Haveli Shah Mohd Tantray is now a proud father of an IAS officer, as his son Aijaz-ur-Rehman Tantray has cleared the prestigious IAS exam with the 869th rank. With this huge achievement of his son, former MLA Shah Mohd Tantary has joined the elite club of a few politicians across the country whose children have become part of the nation’s elite services. Former Bihar Chief Minister the late Satyendra Narayan Sinha’s son was a 1963 batch IPS officer.

The daughter of speaker Om Birla, namely Anjali Birla, also cracked the prestigious IAS exam in 2019. Simala Prasad, who was the daughter of BJP MP and former IAS officer Dr Bhagirath Prasad, who represented the Bhind constituency between 2014 and 2019, became an IPS officer with an all-Indian rank of 51. Currently, she is serving as superintendent of police in Madhya Pradesh. As per the data from the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, more than 50% of IAS officers come from families with a government service background. Though there is no official record maintained by the said academy regarding the list of officers coming from political families, the academy still said that people from different backgrounds have usually cracked the prestigious exam over the years, but as far as candidates from political families are concerned, their number is very low across the nation. Although there is no properly maintained list of the politicians across India whose children have cracked the IAS exam, they are few in number only, and finding his name in that national-level elite list of parents is former MLA Shah Mohd Tantray, and it’s a big achievement for him as a politician.
