POONCH: The J&K police, which is the country’s elite force on account of its professional commitment, especially on the terrorism front, always sets an example of honouring its officials from top to bottom (ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs, SSPs, SPs, Dy.SPs, Inspectors, SIs, PSIs and lower-rank officials) on the eve of Republic Day and Independence Day to encourage the morale of its workforce, as it helps every official of the J&K police to serve the nation with more dedication, fully realising the fact that those who perform their duties with dedication ultimately will be rewarded. J&K police, which always set this example twice in a year, is a big lesson for other civil departments of the J&K government, which have mostly failed to reward their dedicated staff members on account of any type of achievement.

Although, a few people questioned the criteria adopted for J&K police awards by the top brass of the J&K police and said that mostly the awards are managed. Whether all the awards given to police officials are on the basis of merit only or through management is a topic of discussion which needs elaborate research, but the idea behind the award is a great one, and that is to raise the morale of police officials from top to bottom to prepare themselves to face various challenges. Awards also help the J&K police personnel in their service careers. Every year, J&K police reward their dedicated officials twice, but despite having this unique example in front of them, all the other civil departments of the J&K government have failed to adopt this unique example to honour their dedicated staff members. During the national functions, it is seen that at the district headquarters, the concerned district administration used to give some certificates to some departments as a routine exercise, but all the departments need to start this practice to give awards to outstanding staff members, as it will set a benchmark for all the employees to work in a more dedicated way. The officials of the intelligence agencies, which also work from behind the curtains to shape the nation’s destiny, also need to be rewarded well for their extreme dedication to the nation through their selfless services. Although the history tells another story that most of the awards at any level are fully managed, and only real performers get awards purely on the basis of merit, the unique idea of J&K police to regularly give awards to outstanding police personnel is not a normal one and needs to be implemented in all the departments, from district to UT level. All the civil departments, if they implement this on the ground, but on merit only, will increase the output of all the departments from the public delivery point of view. In the absence of any type of award in the civil departments, the workforce of civil departments hardly works with complete dedication to achieve the desired output. The efforts of J&K police top brass are unique, and it needs to be implemented in all the civil departments with the only agenda to encourage the government employees to work in a more dedicated way, and those who fulfil the criteria of their concerned departments will be rewarded every year on the day of national festivals like Republic Day and Independence Day.
