J&K BJP leadership exposed: Trains everywhere in Kashmir, but not in Rajouri-Poonch

POONCH: Although the Union government has blessed the majority of districts of Kashmir province with the railway connectivity, and the same railway connectivity to more districts of Kashmir province is in the pipeline as per the reports available with “POONCH TODAY,” it’s sad that the border region of Poonch and Rajouri has been ignored by the Union government until now.

The districts of Kashmir that have been touched by the railway are Baramulla, Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, and Ramban, and efforts are on to touch more districts of Kashmir by the government. The issue of the Jammu-Poonch railway line was raised by the BJP leadership of J&K many times. During the elections, the BJP leadership, including the sitting MP Jugal Kishore, misled the people of Poonch and Rajouri about the railway line from Jammu to Poonch. Even though the survey was completed and there was hope among the people of Rajouri and Poonch that they would get railway connectivity soon, throwing all aspirations of the people to the wind, the railway board nearly two years ago shelved the ambitious 223 km long Rs 22,771 crore project by terming it as unviable. The survey of the project was completed in 2017-18, but the project could not be taken forward as being financially viable, said a railway board official. It is pertinent to mention here that the Jammu-Poonch railway line was the main issue of the BJP during the parliamentary election of 2014 and subsequent assembly elections, but after the passing of nearly eleven years, no major development has been seen on the issue. It clearly shows that the J&K BJP leadership has failed to raise the issue strongly with the union government. Poonch and Rajouri are border districts and suffered heavily during Operation Sindoor, so the people deserve round-the-clock road and railway connectivity, but the BJP leadership has betrayed the people of Poonch and Rajouri on this issue. When the majority of districts of Kashmir have got the railway line, then what’s the reason for the union government to ignore the Poonch-Rajouri region by terming the project as financially viable? The people of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, despite voting mostly against the BJP during the parliamentary and assembly elections, have huge expectations from the union government as far as the Jammu-Poonch railway line project is concerned. If the union government has connected many districts of Kashmir with the railway network, then the nationalist people of Poonch and Rajouri also deserve the railway line as soon as possible, being the border districts that are extremely near to the LOC. Although the J&K BJP leadership has failed in projecting the issue strongly, it’s the union government on which the people have huge expectations and hope that the government will provide the railway connectivity from Jammu to Poonch to fulfill the dream of everyone in the sensitive border region.
