POONCH TODAY NEWS
POONCH/RAJOURI: The people of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri have expressed their deep concern over the questionable attitude being adopted by the concerned authorities by closing the completed Kandi and Nowshera tunnels day in and day out.
People said that despite the full completion of the tunnels, the authorities have not given a specific reason for the closure of the tunnels, thereby causing huge inconvenience to the people. Question marks have also been raised against the authorities for not expediting the remaining work on the Bathuni bridge, Rajouri. It is important to mention here that on the Jammu-Rajouri section of the Jammu-Poonch national highway, there are three tunnels, of which two are completed, and the one big Sunghal tunnel is likely to be completed soon. The stretch from the Sunghal tunnel to Bhambla is also poor, which leads to huge disturbance to the public. The twin border districts have already suffered heavily during Operation Sindoor, so the people have sought immediate attention from the government to complete the work on a war footing because both the districts are highly sensitive and require a proper road network. Moreover, the work on the BG-Poonch stretch is also slow and full of potholes, which requires immediate attention from the authorities, but the complete ignorance of the government and district administration of Poonch towards the most genuine issue raises a big question mark on their intention. Many political leaders, social workers, students, and youngsters who used to travel on the Poonch-Jammu route regularly appealed to the government to open the Kandi and Nowshera tunnel in the first instance and complete the remaining work on the war footing level. They said that the people of Rajouri and Poonch have already suffered from developmental deficit and are keen to see a good road network. They also questioned the Rajouri administration for its silence on the horrible condition of the road near Panj Peer. People from every section of society have sought immediate attention from the government on the issue and demanded early opening of tunnels and early completion of the Bathuni bridge for the convenience of the public.
