POONCH: Appreciating Lieutenant Governor J&K UT, G.C Murmu, Director General youth services and sports Dr Salim Ur Rehman and Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav, President People Forum Advocate Sanjay Raina and senior Congress leader Taj Mir said that government has taken a vibrant decision for strengthening sports infrastructure in border district of Poonch by providing hockey turf.
In a statement issued here, Advocate Raina, said, “Poonch hockey has huge potential and despite practicing on grass, Hockey Poonch has won prestigious J&K UT championship for the first time early this year and after getting this turf, I am sure, Poonch hockey will produce international players because huge talent exists in Poonch and I have seen young hockey coach Matinder Pal Singh given exceptional coaching to his players.” Advocate Raina also demanded similar international level facilities for other games. Whereas senior Congress leader, Taj Mir, said, “The credit for this hockey turf goes to LG sahib, DG YSS Dr Salim Ur Rehman, Hockey India, Hockey J&K and our DDC Poonch Rahul Yadav, who took keen interest in provide best facility for hockey in Poonch as its a well known fact that Poonch hockey has remained very powerful and myself have witnessed many hockey matches in higher secondary ground, sports stadium Poonch and I saw many hockey stalwart playing hockey over the years.” added “The contribution of Late Sham lal Sharma, Hockey coach will be remembered for long and I hope that younger generation coaches will provide best coaching to the next generation players.” Both the social and political personalities said that boys higher secondary school has become the first school in entire J&K UT to get this international facility for its students. They also said that boy’s higher secondary school remained a perfect hockey centre for several decades in addition of hockey centre at degree college ground. Hoping best results from Poonch hockey, both Taj Mir and Advocate Raina said that they are keen to see Poonch hockey providing international hockey player in near future once the turf is completed. Both the leaders also demanded fast pacing of work on 132 kv transmission line’s realignment
