The Poonch municipality has totally become a defunct institution, as no action has yet been taken on brazen encroachments of the market, right from the post office area to Parade and then to Hathithan Bazaar and Poonch Fort via the main bazaar, where shopkeepers were seen openly capturing the place, but the municipal officials used to visit selected areas just for media attention to dodge the common masses. The failure of the administration in addressing the issue of the shortage of Safai Karamcharis and the open encroachment of market space has invited sharp criticism from the people, as they said that the officers of the Poonch administration are just throwing dust in the eyes of the common man with their time-pass culture. Meanwhile, on the dangerous plan of auctioning Poonch municipality properties by some tainted officers, the government has yet to take strong action against those who tried their best behind the curtains to sell the municipal properties to private parties who are close to those officers occupying important posts in the administration. It was a dangerous conspiracy in the making, but the timely issue raised by “POONCH TODAY” has shattered the plans of the tainted forces in the administration. It’s high time for the government to investigate all the issues of the Poonch municipality, right from the open partiality in casual recruitment to the shortage of Safai Karamcharis, the open encroachment of market space in various parts of the city, purchasing scams, and a host of other illegal acts. The government must bring to justice those executive officers who played a mischievous role.
