Sunil Gupta said that a loyal and dedicated party cadre worked for the party for more than four decades, and now the party has gone into the hands of people who are involved in corruption, drug peddling and land mafia activities. He said that such people have become powerful in the party, and due to this, the party’s credibility has gone down in the Poonch-Rajouri region. It is important to mention here that there is sufficient proof that the Poonch unit of the BJP has been divided into various factions, and each faction is grinding its own axe, thereby giving massive setbacks to the party’s prospects in the region. Those leaders with credibility, who laid the foundation of party for more than four decades, have been sidelined and the party seems to have been captured by outsiders with arguable credentials, alleged some senior leaders. After the abrogation of temporary articles 370 and 35-A, the BJP gained respectable popularity in the Poonch-Rajouri region as people with different political and social backgrounds joined the party. A senior BJP leader, now completely ignored in the party, termed the party a private construction agency due to the presence of a large number of contractors. When contacted, he said, on the condition of anonymity, “Our party was known for strict discipline and moral values, but over the years, the entry of people with doubtful backgrounds has eclipsed the party, and it’s not a good sign for the party in the future.” There are reports that different factions in the BJP in both the Poonch and Rajouri belts are fighting silently against each other to score points. On the one hand, the BJP top leadership is eyeing winning the maximum number of assembly seats from the Poonch-Rajouri belt, but the decreasing popularity of the BJP in the region is a worrying sign for the BJP top brass. The statement of Sunil Gupta, who is known in political circles as a fully grown politician and one of the strong pillars of the BJP in the Poonch-Rajouri, has given an alarming signal to the party’s high command on the issue of corrupt leaders, land grabbers, and drug peddlers lowering the reputation of the party, and it would be interesting to see how the BJP top brass will address the issue of infighting among the party cadre at ground level and to further increase the trust of the people in the saffron brigade.
