POONCH: A heated debate is going on across J&K in which several teacher associations have condemned the decision of the government regarding the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (T.E.T.) for all teachers as part of the National Education Policy (N.E.P.) initiative.
Teachers across the nation, particularly in J&K, have made significant contributions to the nation by producing efficient human resources in various fields over the decades. However, it is shocking that a few visionless individuals, sitting in their air-conditioned rooms, have jeopardized the jobs and livelihoods of teachers and their families by imposing the T.E.T. requirement. Why should the teaching community suffer due to the senseless decision of a few visionless individuals? Teachers in J&K worked like labour walas by supporting various government pro-public initiatives like election-related works, mid-day meals, various surveys, and, likewise, many non-teaching activities of the government in addition to fulfilling their teaching duties. Despite getting stepmotherly treatment at the hands of successive regimes, the teacher community members have been doing their selfless service for the nation for several decades. The sacrifice that the teacher community has made for the nation is unparalleled, but it’s sad that a few visionless chairs have given another shocker to the teaching community in the shape of this T.E.T. order, which has brought the teaching community under extreme stress. Due to a huge workload, the teaching community has already been under stress for a long time, but rather than providing relief to the teaching community of any kind, the government has failed to reward their selfless service for the nation; rather, they have been backstabbed under the new dictatorial order of T.E.T. A large number of teachers, while talking to the “POONCH TODAY” newspaper, said that they got the government job of teacher after qualifying for the exam under the relevant recruitment rules of the government, and some of them have crossed two to three decades of service, and a majority of teachers are at the fag end of their careers, but it’s shocking that they have been put to unnecessary mental torture by the government. They questioned that. Why not similar tests for bureaucrats, judges, engineers, doctors, professors, and other professions, and why this harassment only for the nation-builder community, which has produced judges, doctors, engineers, scientists, and other big brains of the nation? On social media also, some blackmailers who looted the government money through their various illegal tactics were also seen targeting the teaching community and stressed them to appear in the T.E.T. to prove their competence. It’s strange that those who fail to qualify for a single government exam and then choose the blackmailing industry to harass one another for monetary targets are seen giving lectures to the nation-building community on the topic of competence. Likewise, some political leaders and self-styled intellectuals are also seen supporting the decision of the government, which is totally against the teaching community. Teachers are not tomatoes and potatoes, as they have proved themselves as the most trusted soldiers of the government during the last several decades by coming to the rescue of the government by doing various government works in addition to their teaching duties. Teachers were also seen carrying cylinders, rice bags, and other similar items on their shoulders to various far-flung schools. They were also seen cooking meals for the students regularly despite working in unfavourable terrains, but it’s unfortunate that their selfless services have been given a cold shoulder by the government and have been directed to appear in T.E.T. to prove their competence, and those who fail to pass the test will be out of the service after some attempts. This is really a dictatorship shown by the government against the teaching community. Those sitting in the air-conditioned rooms of important offices need to visit the ground to see the sacrifices made by the teaching community for the nation, and all the teachers have not got government jobs like purchasing potatoes and tomatoes; they got their jobs purely on the basis of merit during various teacher recruitment drives. If those big chairs, who have adopted a blind-eye approach towards the teaching community, first implement the same for other professions, including their own profession, before initiating this illogical practice for the teaching community, then it might be considered. Those who have ordered this T.E.T. test for teaching community, let them lead from the front by beginning charity from their own homes first. It’s a complete injustice to the teaching community, for which the successive state governments, UT governments, and the union government must act as a priority and take this order back and plan something new for the teaching community rather than putting their professional lives and the lives of their dependents at risk of losing their bread and butter. The teaching community, which plays a vital role in nation-building, deserves better treatment and should not be subjected to this extreme harassment. Is this not an injustice to the teaching community, Ms. Education Minister?
