POONCH: Faisal Javid Kasana, an exceptional young scholar from Khanetar, Poonch, has garnered recognition for securing an offer for a Ph.D. in English Literature from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu.

As per the offer letter from the Director of IIT Jammu, Kasana will pursue this academic endeavor as a full-time institute scholar, commencing with the 2025-26 academic session, and will leverage advanced research methodologies, including computational linguistics and corpus analysis. Born into a humble background, Faisal is the son of the late Javid Iqbal Kasana, a former Zonal Education Officer in the J&K Education Department. His outstanding academic trajectory is a testament to his unwavering dedication to literary theory, criticism, and cultural studies. A distinguished alumnus of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Surankote and Maulana Azad Memorial (MAM) College Cluster University, Jammu, Kasana completed his integrated master’s in English literature with outstanding distinction, demonstrating expertise in areas such as narratology, postcolonial studies, and ecocriticism. Kasana’s impressive academic portfolio includes several peer-reviewed research papers and a burgeoning reputation as an English poet, with favorable reviews from esteemed experts in the field of literary studies. Notably, he has collaborated with IIT Jammu as a researcher on a pioneering project with the J&K Tribal Affairs Department, focusing on applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to translate tribal literature into English, thereby preserving cultural heritage and promoting linguistic diversity.
