JAMMU: Although the top traffic police officers are seen on social media with their big claims about an efficient traffic system in the city of temples, on the ground, nothing is visible.

At the most important points of the city of Jammu, traffic signals remain non-functional for some time, and this leads to huge inconvenience to the public. Some of the locations in the city are without any traffic police personnel. Many times, senior traffic police officers on their close social media channels are seen beating around the bush about the activeness of the traffic police in taking on various traffic violators, but in reality, those social media statements are only a trick to remain in the good books of the top bosses in the government. If this is the condition of Jammu city, then what would be the condition of traffic police inefficiency in other districts of Jammu division? The same is the case in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, where the main job of traffic officials is to run for monthly benefits through their specially laid nakas. Dy.SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch and SSP Traffic Rural have failed to take action against traffic violations. Once in a blue moon, these officials used to visit far-flung districts just to show their presence to give a message to the people that traffic police officials are active. The horrible state of affairs of traffic police shows that the system is at the mercy of God. Most of the time, traffic police officials are also seen harassing the people with the threat of clicking pictures of their vehicles on an illogical basis, and this trend is active all over the Jammu region. Traffic police officials have their own techniques of indulging in hand-in-glove activities on highways. If the traffic police officers of high ranks have taken things for granted, then it’s an alarming trend that needs not to be overlooked by the government. At some places in the heart of Jammu city, one can easily come to the conclusion that traffic police are nowhere in Jammu, in addition to the poor traffic signals at a few places. These days Shri Amarnath Yatra is in full swing, and if this is the condition of the Jammu city traffic system, then who is to be blamed for this mess? Top officials of the traffic police in their social media statements claim to be hitting the bull’s-eye, but on the ground, the entire system is defunct, and as a result of these brazen inefficiencies of the traffic police top brass, it’s the public that suffers a lot. This mess created by the traffic police in Jammu, in fact, gives an indirect message that “Welcome to Jammu: Defunct traffic police is at your service.”
