POONCH: A 2001 batch KPS officer, Yougal Manhas, who is blessed with the tag of a professionally strong police officer, has been poasted as SSP Poonch.

Before becoming SSP Poonch, Yougal remained on important and challenging postings as SDPO Mendhar, Dy.SP Headquarter Jammu, Dy.SP Operation Sopore, ASP Sopore, ASP Poonch, SP City Jammu, SSP Kishtwar, SP SSG, SSP Rajouri, and SSP Kupwara before becoming SSP Poonch. Awarded with various medals, including PMG, Sher-e-Kashmir Medal for Gallantry, DGP Commendation Medal, Army Commanders Commendation, Parakram Medal, Sher-e-Kashmir Medal for Meritorious Service, Aantrik Suraksha Medal, and a few other routine medals, Yougal led many successful operations on the terrorism front during his long career. Having full knowledge of Poonch district would be an added advantage for Yougal, who has been posted as SSP during challenging hours when the district is facing a revival of terrorism. It is important to mention here that Yougal enjoys a massive reputation in both the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Sources in the police department told “POONCH TODAY” that the government, after a hectic exercise, chose Yougal Manhas for Poonch district because of his vast experience and professional knowledge of the district, which is facing multiple challenges. Yougal Manhas’s posting as SSP Poonch will definitely boost the morale of the police, and it is expected that the police department will use his expertise in both the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, because in the entire J&K UT, these two districts have become the epicenter of the revival of terrorism and drug mafia. As the nation is heading towards parliamentary elections, it is likely that Pakistan and its sponsored terrorists will try their best to disturb the region, so placing the right person for the right job seems to be the policy of LG Manoj Sinha and DGP J&K Police R.R. Swain. It would be interesting to see whether Yougal Manhas proves his mettle again in Poonch district as SSP in proving heavy over all forms of crimes and revival of terrorism, as there are huge expectations of the people from him.
