POONCH: The illogical order no. RSS/DHP/1240-43 Dated 11/06/2025, passed by a controversial medical superintendent, Raja Sukhdev Singh Hospital, Poonch, banning media from covering the news has sparked a big controversy, and this order has justified the fact that the health department in Poonch is marred by corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement at every level.

Deaths of infants and others due to the negligence of doctors remained a routine affair in the hospital, but the recent deaths of two ladies, namely Asia Kouser and Anjum Nisa, have invited huge criticism on social media against the hospital administration. Adding fuel to the fire is the media banning orders from a controversial B-grade anesthesia consultant who reportedly managed the seat of medical superintendent just to play some big shots, which he is known for. Although it’s the duty of the media to highlight every issue of public importance, the Raja Sukhdev Singh Hospital, being the only important place in the district from a health services point of view, always remains under the watchful eyes of the media. The controversial medical superintendent, when reportedly honored by a political person a few days ago, invited huge media inside his office, but when the same media exposed the inefficiency in the hospital, the tainted medical superintendent issued an order banning media from covering the issues in the hospital premises. A number of mafias have been operating from the premises of the same hospital, and these mafias have direct links up to the office of the directorate of health services in Jammu. This is the reason that not a single action was taken on reported matters of brazen corruption, huge financial frauds, and cases of inefficiencies on the part of the successive medical superintendents and CMOs. The operation theater of the hospital has become a toll plaza, with those posting there never missing an opportunity to grab the money from innocent patients who come to the hospital for various types of operations. Plus, the attachment industry that opened in the health department is so powerful that even the director or commissioner/secretary health cannot do anything. Some blue-eyed employees have become so powerful that nothing moves without their consent in the hospital and the department. One of the employees has a direct link to the directorate level, and he used to play a mischievous role in the maximum frauds that have taken place in the department. The said official never attended to his regular duties for years but always got a regular salary because he has been working as a kingpin for the higher-ups sitting at the directorate level. Moreover, the medical superintendent, who issued an order banning media, was himself involved in a viral video demanding money from the patients. The health department in Poonch has gone completely out of control, and even the CMO cannot do anything because he also lacks the capacity to run the department in an efficient manner. The presence of various mafias, including those involved in the private practice of doctors, is causing significant suffering for the common man. It shows that human lives have no value in the hospital. Financial scams worth crores of rupees, from district headquarters to blocks, are lying beneath the carpet, but the hospital has no basic infrastructure, and the same was exposed during the Pakistan shelling in the Poonch city. It’s high time for the health minister and commissioner/secretary of health to intervene and save the innocent lives of the patients from the repeated negligence of doctors in addition to bringing the system on the right track.
