Director Health Services Jammu never visited Poonch during COVID crisis; health care system on ventilator

POONCH: Thousands of crores were provided to the Health department Poonch over the years for strengthening infrastructure, but COVID-19 exposed everything as Raja Sukhdev Singh hospital and other health institutions of the district  were seen lacking basic facilities.

Poor attitude of CMO Poonch and Medical Supdt in dealing with COVID crisis exposed health sector. Even Deputy Commissioner Poonch took  health officers to task for their perfunctory    behaviour. During the pandemic, Director Health services Jammu never bothered to visit Poonch and it shows that whole system of health department has collapsed, right from top to bottom. During the first COVID wave, Poonch district was almost safe, but sudden rise in cases during the second wave proved disastrous for Poonch and health department was seen totally incompetent to deal with the crisis. Nearly 70% of employees of health department Poonch are not attending their duties for long years  in Raja sukhdev Singh hospital for long and as a result, health sector suffers a lot. Irresponsible attitude of Director Health services, CMO Poonch and Medical Suptdt Raja Sukhdev Singh hospital Poonch shows that health care system is totally on ventilator and due to increasing influence of medical mafia on the hospital administration, PM Jan Aushadi Kendra still not opened. It shows that Doctors and other paramedical staff posted in hospital prefer commission from medical mafia for sending patients outside hospital for the purchase of medicines. Government needs to strengthen health infrastructure in Poonch because Poonch is a border district and it took nearly seven hours for a patient to reach Jammu for better health care facilities during emergency.
