POONCH: Despite getting several crores of rupees under various schemes, the Jal Shakti department in Poonch has failed brazenly to ensure regular water supply to the people.

Locals allege that a few employees of the department are seen doing other activities, unconcerned about the concerns of the common man.

Locals leveled a serious allegation of inefficiency against Deputy Commissioner Poonch, saying that the top chair has also brazenly failed to streamline the department. It is worth noting that the office of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch has been facing serious allegations of inefficiency on a variety of fronts, and this was the sole reason that the Poonch district rose from the bottom of the J&K UT’s good governance index, which was released a few months ago. Insiders in the Jal Shakti department told “POONCH TODAY” that a few officials have taken everything for granted because their main goal is to earn a lot of money through deception, with little regard for the public’s convenience.A senior citizen, pleading anonymity, said, “Several crores of rupees were given to the Jal Shakti department in Poonch during the last few years, but still, the concerned department has failed to ensure regular water supply to the people. Even during the ongoing Navratras and the holy month of Ramzan, a large number of areas of Poonch city are without water supply. Meanwhile, various lower rung officials of Jal Shakti are seen doing personal activities other than their designated duties; as a result, the department is facing a shortage of manpower. Nobody is accountable in the department as the tussle between SE, X.En, and other important officers has spoiled the working of the department, and its effect is visible on the ground as the public is suffering a lot. Locals said that the office of the Deputy Commissioner has maintained a questionable silence on the matter. They have appealed to the LG’s administration and Commissioner/Secretary Jal Shakti to transfer inefficient officers from Poonch for their failure to meet the expectations of the people. Moreover, they have also demanded a high level inquiry into the misuse of funds that has taken place in the Jal Shakti department over the years and also into the illegal activities of various employees who are not doing their duties as assigned to them.
