Police officers doing hectic lobbying for become SSP of two districts; Shifting at top level may take place

JAMMU: Hectic lobbying is going on among few Police officers for becoming SSP of at least two districts of Jammu region as during the last few days, it has come in public domain through off the record versions that a major reshuffle in police department is on cards at SSP level, not confirmed officially, but at DIG level, Vivek Gupta(IPS) was directed by government to look after the charge of JKS range in addition to R-P range, because IPS officer B.S Tuti relieved and directed towards Ladakh. However, on SSP posting, few aspirants have started hectic lobbying within police, BJP and in New Delhi for their adjustment as SSP, although one SSP was adjusted, the other day in Udhampur. Highly placed sources in civil secretariat told “POONCH TODAY” that a Police officer, who remained on important postings in police department, including SSP of an important place and also considered as a shady officer in police circles having a luxurious property in a posh area of Jammu, is eyeing to become SSP of a district again. Likewise, another top officer, who faced some corruption related inquiries earlier, is also trying hard to become SSP of one of the plain district and not in a mountainous district. It is pertinent to mention here that J&K Police has done a commendable job after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A and also during Corona crisis, but there were some issues in between, which were not digested well by few powerful leaders of a ruling political party, including the issue of ongoing tussle between two IPS officers on social media and favoritism in the transfer of Dy.SPs during the last eight months. Those Dy.SPs, who did their job in a professional way, even by risking their life, were not rewarded well and those, having influence were adjusted out of the way and were given prize postings. Even, few Dy.SPs, who spent most of their time on insignificant postings, started doing corruption, when adjusted to a significant location in Jammu region, while few other Dy.SPs are still waiting for a professional posting. Few political leaders of a ruling party have taken this on a serious note and have brought this issue in the notice of union ministry. If there are positive points of J&K police during the last one year on law and order issues, then, there were some issues from top level of J&K police, which were taken in a negative way by a ruling political party and going by this, there are also reports that few powerful leaders of a ruling party are pressing for shifting at top level in near future, in addition of routine shifting at SSP and DIG level. Although, in few districts of Jammu region, strong policing is going on, but in few districts, weak policing has lower the morale of public and subordinate Police officials. A police officer, who once faced major enquiry and later managed that inquiry in his favour, said, in lighter vein, to his subordinates, “Its better to take leave than to work under this inefficient boss who is still remembered in department for selling eatable items.” However, it is not clear, whether the transfer of few SSPs will take place for two to three districts or not, but, rumours are going on strongly within the police department and going by that, all eyes are on police department.
