POONCH: The law of the land is equal for all, and there should be no scope for police to judge weak and powerful anti-nationalists from different prisms, but in the sensitive border district of the Jammu region, police have adopted different means to deal with sensitive law and order situations.

If a weak person having no political backing posts a bad comment on social media, police officers spare no moments in arresting the same under pressure of regular phone calls from people of a particular thought, whereas if some tainted persons known for their anti-national credentials start spitting venom against the national interest by threatening law and order problems repeatedly, the police of the same district prefer to adopt time-passing tactics by not taking action against the tainted forces known for their questionable history against the nation. This double standard on the part of the police raises the morale of anti-national forces in the district. The arrogance of top officers is so high that they used to give cold shoulders to the inputs from prominent intelligence agencies on various issues of internal security concern, and it raises the morale of anti-nationals having political backing who used to spit venom against the national interest time and again. The question arises why such anti-national forces are not taken to task yet despite their history of working against the law and order issues. In other day-to-day issues of common men who are involved in any type of crime, police always show their effectiveness on the ground by taking action against the individuals involved in bad acts, but why do police officers hesitate to take action against powerful law violators who have huge political and other types of backing? Are police rules different for weak and powerful criminals? Some shrewd police officers always take the services of some touts in the fourth estate and civil society to fulfil their self-interests of various kinds by getting information about various individuals, but behind the scenes, these police officers with a questionable record are always seen giving silent support to the anti-nationals by not taking action against them despite having intelligence reports against the anti-national people. The double standard adopted by some police officers risks the internal security and peace of the common man of the border district. Rather than focusing their energy on illegal activities of earning money from different sources, including bovines and drugs, it would be better if the police brass set an example before the public to show that the law of the land is equal for all and there are no good or bad law violators. “POONCH TODAY” is in possession of various inflammatory speeches and social media statements of some persons known for their anti-national credentials, but not a single action has been initiated against those anti-nationals, and it raises a big question mark on the mindset of those holding important positions in the police. These anti-nationals always took shelter of fake ‘secularism’, fake ‘bhaichara’ and timely waving of the tricolour to deceive the law-enforcing agencies. These are the same anti-nationals who described terrorists as ‘freedom fighters’ after the killing of a famous terrorist in June 2016 and also took procession in his support. This double standard of police is not acceptable to the common man, and the prestigious J&K police should give important positions to only those officers who give top priority to nationalism and internal security issues only and not fake ‘secularism’ and fake ‘bhaichara’ to give an impression to the common man that the law of the land is equal for all.
