POONCH: In the recent concluded and highly successful BDC elections, young leader from Mandi, Shamim Ganai proved heavy over two candidates supported by two ex-legislators and won BDC Mandi by securing 69 votes, forcing his main opponents to stand at 46 and 33 votes respectively.

 

Ganai was facing tough challenge from all the corners as two power ex-legislators tried their best to ensure defeat of Shamim Ganai with an eye on next assembly elections, but young Ganai played smartly and won with a huge margin. In Poonch haveli. Ch Gani performed well as candidates supported by him in two to three blocks won. In six blocks of Tehsil Surankote and Mendhar, independents won comfortably.  Among all the eleven blocks of Poonch district, election of BDC Mandi  remained high profile as two ex-legislators used their full might to ensure defeat of Shamim Ganai, but Ganai turned the tables and won with  a thumping lead. Meanwhile, BJP has been exposed again as none of the leaders supported by Poonch BJP managed to win. In Rajouri district also, BJP performed poorly and won 8 out of 19 blocks. In Kalakote block of former BJP MLA Abdul Gani Kohli, BJP lost all three seats, even lost home block Lamberi of JK BJP president Ravinder Raina. In Nowshera,  BJP won only two seats out of five seats. Meanwhile, government has  succeeded in its attempt of establishing second tier governance at gross root level as maximum voters participation took place in both the districts of Pir Panjal. Newly elected BDC chairperson’s have to work for development to win public confidence, feel locals.
