COVID-19: Opening of Mughal road would be suicidal for Poonch and Rajouri districts

POONCH: Huge debate is going on in Poonch city over opening of Mughal road as people expressed their opinion that opening of the said road would be suicidal for twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri as Kashmir has become an epicentre of Corona positive cases and there is huge risk of infection entering both the districts, if people are allowed to pass through Mughal road.  Highly placed sources in government told “POONCH TODAY” that government is also of the opinion that the said road should not be opened during this summer, but voice against this opinion are also there in government circles. There are also reports that few people travelled on foot through this Mughal road route few days back, but they were identified and sent to quarantine centres and possibility of more people coming on foot through this road cannot be ruled out. The other day, government directed DCs of Poonch and Shopian to formulate a plan to regulate traffic once the road is opened for traffic, but people of Poonch believe that opening of road should be delayed for more time as Poonch and Rajouri districts cannot bear Corona crisis, if erupted, due to poor health care infrastructure in both the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri. Although, local authorities claimed that the health care infrastructure is up to date, but government was not given perfect feedback by administrations of both the districts. Ground situation, as far as health care infrastructure is concerned, is very alarming as those sitting at the helm of affairs in health department Poonch and Rajouri, only believe in looting government exchequer as nothing concrete has been done for years, from strengthening health infrastructure is concerned. For the safety of people of both Poonch and Rajouri districts, government should not open Mughal road as it would prove suicidal.
