POONCH: Time and again exposed by “POONCH TODAY” that September 2014 flood proved as a “Gold Mine” for the officials of Irrigation and Flood Control department Poonch as under SDRF, massive funds in several crores were spent on non existing works. Some political leaders of Mendhar grabbed the opportunity with folded hands and spared no moments and pressurize successive X.ENs for passing the bills of their supporters and in turn, the said leaders got massive share. X.ENs, AEEs and JEs looted government exchequer like anything. Even, for maximum time, few Contractors were running the affairs of the department and unfortunately, the same practice is still going on. The brazen corruption in Irrigation and Flood Control department  Poonch remained talk of the town for four years and as a result, many inquiry committees were formed to ascertain the truth, but what happened to the report of  those inquiry committees has remained a mystery till date. In all the tehsils of Poonch district, the officials withdrew massive bills in several lacs for doubtful works. Major fraud was taken place in SDRF works and  in other schemes and few officers, who scripted major scams, later managed their transfer fearing exposure of their wrong acts in public domain. Many RTI applicants approached the department seeking details under various heads, but in a  shocking revelation, the officials said that they have no record and it clearly shows that how massive murder of government funds have taken place and still going on. Department is repeatedly spending money on a  protection bund near S.K bridge. A high level inquiry is needed to detect various frauds which have taken place in the department. It’s a question mark on Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control as under his jurisdiction, huge frauds have been taking place.
