POONCH TODAY NEWS

POONCH: It’s hard to believe that Irrigation and Flood Control Department despite remaining in news for six years after the 2014 flood for scripting various frauds under SDRF and other schemes, got thumbs up from its boss few days ago. Highly placed sources in Irrigation and Flood Control department told “POONCH TODAY”, pleading anonymity that Chief Engineer has appreciated the department for its work culture. Now the question arsis, on what basis, the boss of the department appreciated the works of Irrigation Department Poonch. Few people have encroached Irrigation canal near S.K bridge and built shops over it, but rather than moving some applications, the department has done nothing strongly against the culprits. Even culverts were encroached and department was fully aware of the fact, but no action has been taken yet against those, who captured culverts, Irrigation canals. Likewise, many fake bills in several lacs were withdrawn during the last four years in flood zone. In Mendhar, tehsil, few powerful leaders managed to withdrew fake bills in favour of their political workers with the neck deep involvement of officials of Irrigation and Flood Control department. A clerk, now retired with the help of an Executive Engineer and AE, scripted many frauds and those frauds got the attention of district development board meeting many times. Even, many inquiry committees were formed to bring the truth before the public, but what happened to those inquiry committees has still remained a mystery. It’s strange that despite remaining in news for various frauds, Irrigation Department was appreciated by non other than its Chief Engineer few days back.  A high level inquiry is needed against the department for its repeated failure to get its canals and culverts back which were encroached long ago in addition of murdering funds under SDRF and other schemes.
