Why BJP is ignoring Pahari people on removal of Rs 8 Lakh income slab?

POONCH TODAY NEWS

POONCH: After decades of fight, Pahari people got 4% reservation, when J&K Administrative Council approved amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules, 2005, on 30th of January 2020 and all BJP leaders of J&K wasted no opportunity in celebrating the announcement. In J&K, there are more than 9.6 lakh Pahari people and everybody celebrated the decision of the government. Paharis people are mostly living in Poonch, Rajouri and in few areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Budgam, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian and after years of regular fight, government granted the Paharis much awaited reservation. But few days back, J&K government issued a circular in which it was clearly stated that those Paharis whose income is more than Rs 8 lakh will not get benefit of Pahari reservation and this decision has shaken the aspirations of Pahari people, who are now finding themselves backstabbed by BJP. Even many BJP leaders of Poonch and Rajouri, who projected themselves as voice of Pahari people after the announcement of 4% reservation, have gone under ground after the government introduced Rs 8 lakh income slab. Many Pahari people, when contacted by “POONCH TODAY”, said, “BJP seems to have backstabbed us and we will not forget this. At an appropriate time, all Paharis will show BJP leaders their true place.” Another Pahari leader, said, “Paharis fought very hard for getting this status, but introducing Rs 8 lakh income slab by government is totally injustice with Pahari people and I appeal government to remove this condition, else Paharis will protest to seek justice again.” Right now, there is 8% reservation for SCs, 10% for STs, 4% for social caste, 4% for LAC/IB residents, 10% for RBA, 4% for PSP and 10% of EWSs. To win the confidence of Pahari people, BJP government needs to remove this Rs 8 lakh income slab, but it seems that party has been ignoring the demand of Pahari people and it will prove very costly for the saffron party, feel Pahari intellectuals.
