SSP Poonch Vinay announces his straightforward agenda; gives a blunt warning to fake media, anti-social, anti-national elements; Poonch will be free from drugs: SSP Poonch

POONCH: For decades altogether, some influential groups in the Poonch district, which were supported by Kashmir-based political parties, used to blackmail the administration time and again for their personal interests.

Now they have something to worry about as SSP Poonch, Vinay Sharma, during his first public interaction with civil society members, the other day, gave a blunt message to anti-social and anti-national elements who remained involved in drug terrorism and for their other acts that are detrimental to the peace and internal security of the country. SSP Poonch was seen as aggressive in his speech when he said that police officials have a full history of forces inimical to peace and will be taken to task for playing any kind of foul against the peace and national interest. When some members raised some important issues related to fake media platforms, SSP was quick to respond that those involved in yellow and fake journalism would be dealt with strictly. It is important to mention here that policing in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri remained under a big question mark as the intelligence networks of the police in tackling drug, anti-social, and anti-national forces remained very weak. As a result, Dhangri and BG-type incidents took place, which are still under investigation. Moreover, district Poonch has become an epicenter of drug terrorism, but barring acting once in a blue moon for media limelight by police earlier, anti-national forces still have an upper hand in the flourishing business of drugs. In all the four tehsils of the Poonch district, the drug mafia has spread its tentacles strongly and it would be a very difficult task for police to eliminate the mafia completely due to its weak intelligence network.  In the past, there were reports that some police officers worked hand in glove with drug peddlers with the sole agenda of earning money and, as a result, earned heavily behind closed doors. This drug terrorism has threatened the younger generation of the district, but shockingly, no police officer in the past heading an important post gave such a blunt message to the anti-social and anti-national elements openly on drug terrorism and anti-national acts as SSP Poonch Vinay Sharma gave. In addition to drug terrorism, many forces remained neck-deep involved in anti-national acts, including Hawala funding, but those forces still have not been taken to task for their anti-national acts. The majority of such forces played a double role before the administration. Behind the curtains, they remained involved in scripting foul plays against the nation, and on the front side, they projected themselves as prominent citizens. A strange strategy was put in place by such people with doubtful credentials by forming various soft groups at various places known for pro-people activities with the sole agenda of coming close to police and civil administration to fulfill their plan by entering into good books of administration to get first-hand information about the policies of civil and police administrations, but ironically, civil and police officers failed to detect their hidden plan. This entire network worked in a planned manner for years in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, but the intelligence network of the police failed to detect such plans, and as a result, peace remained hostage, mostly due to the weak policies of the police officers. But for the first time, a police officer of the SSP level gave such an open, blunt warning supported by strong body gestures to all the fake media men, anti-social elements, and anti-national elements that police officers completed their homework, and very soon, those who remained and are involved in wrong acts of any type against the nation will have to pay heavily. This strict, blunt warning given by SSP has internally shaken the roots of those forces that used to make open threats to the administration by deliberately creating various sensitive matters and were not taken to task by successive civil and police regimes. There were also some incidents reported from different corners of J&K in which some media persons were later found out to be terrorists, and the Rajouri incident and some incidents in the Kashmir valley are indications that anti-national forces have now taken shelter in the media field to leak internal security information to forces inimical to peace. This is an alarming trend from an internal security point of view because people with low education and doubtful credentials, including some employees without professional qualifications, are working in the media field to protect their misdeeds. Are they working for any anti-national or anti-social agency, or have they involved themselves in wrongdoing? This thing needs proper investigation by the police. During the last few years, policing in the Poonch district remained very weak, but the quick and blunt statement against anti-social and anti-national elements by SSP Vinay seems to have given a new life to the morale of the police. SSP clearly said that Poonch will be free from drugs. But for implementing his clear-cut agenda, SSP Vinay needs more bold officers on the ground, and in this aspect, the top brass of J&K police, going by the history of Poonch district, should place more strong subordinate police officers in the district to demolish the morale of fake media men, anti-social elements, and anti-national elements. Poonch district is very complex and sensitive and here some IPS and JKPS police officers failed brazenly due to their arrogance and short-sightedness. The blunt statement by SSP Vinay is a good sign from an internal security perspective, and now the question arises: will he be able to convert his words into action against the forces inimical to the peace and internal security of the nation or will his words prove as tactical rhetoric only? Only time will tell.
