POONCH:  Poonch police is going to take tough action against drug peddlers by attaching their properties, said SSP Poonch Vinay Sharma during a press conference in presence of ASP Poonch Musheem Ahmed, Dy.SP Operation, Dy.SP HQ and SHO Police station Poonch Inspector Deepak Pathania. SSP Poonch said that police seized the property of drug peddlers Shakar Din S/o Noor Din R/o Village Degwar Terwan, valued at Rs 45,86,015; one JCB Excavator bearing Registration No. JK12B-6168, valued at Rs 33 lacs; and one Mahindra Tractor bearing Registration No. JK12C 4438, valued at Rs 9 lacs, belonging to Mohd Yaseen S/o Saif Din R/o Degwar Terwan, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act 1985.

The total cost of seized property is said to be Rs 87 lacs, he said. Responding to a question about similar action in Mendhar, SSP said that a double-story building and two cars were seized in Mendhar a few weeks ago, belonging to big drug peddlers, namely Mehmood Hussain, Zaffar Iqbal, and Javid Iqbal, all sons of Talib Hussain R/o Deri Dabsi, Mendhar, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. SSP said that it was a public concern that the police never took action against big drug peddlers, and now the police have started taking strong action against the big drug peddlers by attaching their properties. He said that a few days ago. Mendhar police seized 256 grams of heroin, and Poonch police seized 130 grams of cocaine. On the drug menace in the district, the SSP said that 47 FIRs have been registered and 83 people have been arrested. He said that the seizure of huge quantities of drugs is a clear signal that Pakistan wants to disturb the district. On the Bufliaz episode, SSP said that based on a specific input, a Fortuner car was intercepted, in which two pistols, Rs 2.5 lac cash, and some rounds were recovered. On the spot, two people were arrested, while a third was arrested after an investigation. He further said that there are no narcotics links, but there are instances of LET modules, and more investigation is going on. SSP said that ten regular PSAs and eight PSAs related to drugs have been slapped under the NDPS, and 146 preventive actions have been taken to prevent crime. SSP said that more similar action will be taken against drug peddlers by attaching their properties.
