For getting good posting in J&K Police, influence is necessary and not merit; Tainted Police officers posted on sensitive places

JAMMU: J&K Police has played a remarkable role after the emergence of militancy in J&K and this force has earned the reputation of country’s elite force because of the presence of large number of dedicated and professional Police officers who played their big role for the nation. Many Police personals scarified their lives during the last there decades. Even, after the abrogation of special constitutional provisions from J&K, Police in J&K succeeded a lot in ensuring peace and victory of law and order. But, there is an other side of the story as well. If Police has earned huge respect among the people of J&K for its professional approach while dealing with militancy and ensuring peace, then eyebrows are being raised on top brass of Police for not considering merit while transferring Dy.SP, SP and above senior level officers. In many cases, those Police officers who performed well at their regular place of postings were sidelined and those having a history of “Sycophancy” were adjusted on prime postings, thereby lowering the morale of most deserving officers. Even, few tainted officers, who were having an extremely bad past, were given prime postings. During the last two decades, J&K Police got many high profile DGPs who won the hearts of their Police personals with many pro Police polices, but from past some years, the practice of not giving good officer a reward has started and this unfortunate practice has given a massive setback to all those Police officers(Dy.SPs, SPs and SSPs) who are known for their honesty and strong professionalism. A Police officer with bad track record of getting “Hafta” even from road side vendors and earning from drugs related cases was given a top post, that too on a sensitive place. Similarly, a Police officer who gave a costly watch to his boss also rewarded well. There are many such cases where “Sycophancy” won over merit. For increasing the morale of every Police officer, right from Constable level, to HC, ASI, S.I, Dy.SP and to more upper level, right men should be placed on the right job because posting those officers on good postings with track record of inefficiency, corruption and ethically weak only bring trouble for J&K Police, because at the end of the day, result and reputation matter for J&K Police in the eyes of public and nothing else. Professional and result oriented officers should be rewarded by adjusting them on the right place and those having history of corruption and “Chamchagiri” should be given lesson on professional and ethical policing for a bright future of country’s elite force.
