Pakistan wants to make Poonch the hub of narco-terrorism; Under DGP Dilbagh Singh, SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra captured biggest ever narcotics haul
(POONCH TODAY NEWS)
POONCH: Once a hotbed of militancy, Poonch district always remained on Pakistan’s radar. It’s a well-known fact that Pakistan and its sister anti-India agencies operating from different places made every move to disturb the peace and prosperity, especially in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, in addition to waging a full-scale proxy war in J&K.
J&K Police, the Indian Army, intelligence agencies and other paramilitary forces did a sterling job in the eradication of militancy from the Poonch-Rajouri belt. After getting a major setback at the hands of the JKP, Army, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies of India, Pakistan started another way of committing terrorism against India by supplying drugs and seems to have chosen the sensitive states of Punjab and the UT of J&K. In J&K, Poonch and Rajouri districts are very sensitive and have become epicentres of narco-terrorism. Although, JKP, the Army, and other security agencies remained very active against narco-terrorism with the capture of some big assignments over the last few months, the latest and biggest ever assignment in the region captured by J&K police, the Army, and CRPF shows that Pakistan has made Poonch an epicentre of narco-terrorism and those involved in this trade used to supply drugs to different areas of J&K and other states. Capturing more than 7kg of heroin, valued at several crores in the international market, plus the seizure of Rs 2 crore in cash and arms and ammunition, is seen as the biggest ever achievement of the J&K police and army in the Poonch district. Under the supervision of DGP Dilbagh Singh and ADGP Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu; SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra did a marvellous job of striking at the drug mafia strongly, and this achievement of J&K police in the border district of Poonch will boost the confidence of the security forces in further waging a full-scale war against drug terrorism. This incidence of the police capturing a big consignment of drugs shows that the probability of more such consignments of drugs at different places in Poonch district doesn’t rule it out, as Pakistan and its OGWs are active in the Poonch district, making this border district an epicentre of narco-terrorism. After this big achievement by Poonch police, senior police officials were seen talking about links between drug peddlers inside and outside of the J&K UT, and this shows that this big network has its roots established in different states of the country for which an investigation has been started. This biggest success story of Poonch police under SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra, who is known as a silent performer in police circles and also remained on the target of terrorists for his anti militancy strategies, has raised the morale of top officials of J&K police to further bring to book those, who are involved in the narco-terrorism operating from different places under the direction of Pakistan’s ISI. The biggest threat to the nation is drugs, and it is high time that important pillars of the society join hands with the security forces and intelligence agencies in carrying out a full-fledged surgical strike to eliminate this menace with an eye on saving the future of the coming generations of the country. DGP J&K Police Dilbagh Singh, IGP Jammu, and ADGP Mukesh Singh must lead from the front and set an example for their subordinate officers by taking strong action in drug related cases. This recent performance of SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra in capturing the biggest ever narcotics haul in the region, in addition to the seizure of more than Rs 2 crore in cash and weapons from the Dana Doyian area of block Sathra of tehsil Mandi, has set a new benchmark for policing in the war against drugs. It is past time for other district police chiefs in J&K UT to take a similar performance-oriented proactive approach against drug terrorism in order to regain the trust of the general public in J&K police. In the recent past, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli also had some success in the war against drug terrorism, but the SSPs of a few more sensitive districts in Jammu division also need to accelerate their strategy against drug terrorism to meet the benchmark set by SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s efforts to make Poonch a hub of narco-terrorism are being dealt with strictly by the JKP and Army, and those OWGs of Pakistan who are involved in this drug terrorism in the Poonch-Rajouri region must be brought to justice to ensure a drug-free region.
