Not a healthy sign! Do the top brass of the J&K police have limited information about the questionable activities of various police officers? Shrewd officers manage things tactfully

POONCH/JAMMU: Although J&K police have some brilliant officers at various positions, like Chowki officers, SHOs, Dy.SPs, ASPs, SSPs and range DIGs, the top brass of the J&K police seem to have limited information about the questionable work culture of the majority of subordinate officers.
How many police officers use their positions in a negative way to engineer various favours? Police officers who tactfully misused their positions were consistently awarded prize postings, while those who performed their duties professionally were often given poor postings. This scenario happened only partially because a shrewd officer who indulged in foul plays during his earlier posting, despite his good PR skills and strategy, was expecting a positive outcome. However, the feedback from the top brass about the officer was negative, and ultimately, he was given the cold shoulder by the department. Likewise, a few police officers who worked on merit were rewarded with good postings. But the question arises: what about the performance of others who are holding important positions? Was the top brass of the J&K police aware of the true situation, given that many police officers were transferred in the recent reshuffle while some known for illegal acts were not, and others received prestigious postings despite their poor credentials? Did this situation raise significant questions about lack of information among the top brass of the police? Some police officers with questionable records behind the curtains were shifted, and efficient ones have been given important postings; however, some police officers of different ranks with questionable credentials were not touched, sparking public discussion. A police officer of SSP rank, expecting a district SSP posting, told close friends he was coming as SSP of the district and advised them to be ready to receive him with pomp and show. However, when the list was released, he was shifted elsewhere because a shrewd SSP played his cards at an advanced stage, securing his seat for some time. At the same time, another police officer who tactfully played his role during previous postings expected a good posting, but he was surprised to be shifted to an insignificant one. Though he tried his best to build his image through his men in social media, he was surprised over the government decision over his shift. Highly placed sources in the police told “POONCH TODAY” that close subordinate officials of the tactful officer used to leak internal pictures of the officer regularly to the top brass of the J&K police. So, despite his PR skills, he could not save his position. Likewise, one high-profile Dy. SP holding important jurisdiction remained the mastermind of bovine smuggling with the full support of his SSP and DIG and earned heavy income through different foul plays; he was expecting to be transferred to an insignificant place, but he was not touched during the recent reshuffle. Another officer known for his open-to-discussion credentials of the past, after getting his new important posting, has started playing his cards by indirectly pressurising his subordinates to have good liaison with him for future, and what ‘good liaison’ means in police is a well-known fact to all. However, it is generally seen that the top brass of the J&K police are not fully aware of the behind-the-curtains credentials of each and every officer; that is why some tainted ones, despite reports of their crooked activities, including scripting backdoor casual recruitment by adjusting their own men against heavy favours, were not shifted while some have been given new postings. A senior police officer in an important position shifted most of his staff from his office and other subordinate offices and brought in men from his area to occupy important posts, clearly indicating that he did not tolerate officials in his office who did not match his work ideology. Despite his involvement in various wrongdoings, he was not taken to task by the top brass of the J&K police. Given the large-scale reports of corruption by important officers at all levels, it is time for the LG’s administration to reward meritorious officers and assign the corrupt, including those involved in bovine smuggling and other illegal activities, to insignificant positions to protect the reputation of the elite force of the J&K police.
